Description of Donic Waldner Senso Ultra Carbon
Jan-Ove Waldner has been to table tennis what Mozart is to music. Waldner was a fan of the standard blade DONIC Waldner Senso Carbon for many years. This legendary blade has, however, been further developed and improved, in collaboration with the greatest table tennis player of all time. DONIC has designed a faster version of the Waldner Carbon blade. The Waldner Ultra Carbon is a light Carbon blade with impressive ball control and feel - ideal for an inspirational player. The increase in speed is due to hard Carbon plies which have been placed around a relatively thin middle veneer. The inner and outer veneers with varied hardness give this blade superb touch - typical of Waldner.

Reviews of the Donic Waldner Senso Ultra Carbon Tan Yin Loo said this on January 2, 2010:
It is very solid blade with very good feeling. The 2 layers of thin carbon surround the ayous core. This give the blade very good wooden blade feeling as the carbon is far away from the surface wood layer. It also strengthen the blade so that when doing hard smashes, the blade does not vibrate so much that you can feel the ball wobbling. If you are a controlled offensive player, you will definitely like this blade! tsanyc said this on August 19, 2010:
WSUC blade is def not for an agressive looper/hitter/attacker, more of an allround blade. Depends on what rubbers you're using.. I feel with this blade you will need something like T05, because a soft sponge and slow rubber will just give you a def style in a game... Unless you are Jan Ove Waldner, then you could play with anything :) IMHO, this is a good starter blade for people in 1200~1600 rtg. I recommend BTY TM ALC ST, it is the best I've played with so far. Good luck all tsanyc Pablo ahtm said this on July 11, 2011:
A good blade for players who likes to make offensive strokes with a lot of control. I think that is a little bit fast for all round players. Anonymous said this on October 3, 2011:
Althoug it's rated OFF+ by Donic and it's made of carbon, it has great, great control with good speed (but nothing like a Boll TriCarbon). It works great with softer rubbers, it works great with harder rubbers. Good for beginners, using Mark V or Sriver and good for advanced players, with something like Tenergy. This is a fast offensive blade with maximum control. A little bit slower than M.Maze off but it has greater control. It behaves a lot like it in my opinion. It is a little bit front heavy and has a tendency to feel dead in your hand compared to the M.Maze blade, but with a fast rubber it will come alive. If you want a carbon do-it-all blade this should be among your alternatives. It is your pick.

I use this blade for some weeks now with Hexer on forehand and Flarestorm II on backhand. I must tell you this blade shines and donic 's comments about it couldn't be more accurate. I have also played the older version WSC (not Ultra) witch is an excellent fast all-around blade with some difficulties in aspects as: Smash (it vibrates too much) Block (sends the ball rather high) and is fairly head-heavy. The Ultra version sacrifices a little of control to solve all of the above problems. Both blades (despite carbon layers) have a woody feeling, offer sensational control during passive and active game and are excellent in topspin against any type of backspin. Waldner ultra carbon senso is not a killing fast carbon blade (somewhere between Off- and Off) and is definitely a loopers dream. vic said this on June 7, 2012:
I'm a recreational player and had this blade for a while. I love to loop/drive, but no matter what rubbers i put on (fast, medium or slow). it just doesn't work for me. My battered old Primorac is a much better blade. My new Galaxy T8 highlights the lack of speed of this Donic 6655au said this on September 12, 2012:
After experimenting with stiffer and harder blades (Stiga tube carbo, DHS-PG7, Yasaka -d)ynamix) went back to softer, wood feeling carbon blades (Butterfly-balsa carbo 5, Butterfly Maze off, Donic-Waldner SUC). Allways use the same combo of rubbers (Xiom Sigma europe on FH, Globe 888 (MP) with japanise sponge on BH).
Overall testing gave me the final conclusion: DWUSC is unbeatable in all perfomances I need for my control agressive playing!! Whatever I choose during the game I realized; agressive shots on the both sides, passive/active blocking, pushing, serving, looping, driving...everything works perfect from each part of the arena !! Must also say that I cut the head to the shape of Butterfly-Balsa carbo 5, and solved the problem of head heavines. The time for experiments is now over-this is my final choice!! pbping said this on January 20, 2013:
verry good control and the feeling on this blade is the best! Not to fast blade I would say off- blade.

I think the vibration is freaky. Everytime I try to block opponent ball, even in practice, it vibrate heavily, so it kills my sense. Pehaps i'm not used to this kind of vibration. This blade is not for me.

Update: after 8 months of trying to improve my technique, some coaching, trying other blades, looking at coaching clips, borrowing a robot and starting competition...... I like this paddle. I have Jupiter for the forehand and Mercury 2 for the backhand.

Played with this for a couple of months now. I give it 7/10. This sucker is FAST.
Control/feel--I have used high control blades as a rule. This felt really good for a while, but the better my technique got (and I have been working hard to improve lately), the more I found myself saying, "WHOA!" The control isn't bad, but there is a lot to control. Also, it feels quite hard to me. On the plus side, the carbon layers are deep on the plies, so the speed kicks in only on harder shots. But if someone zings one at you, I found it difficult to keep the ball on the boards. Handle--I have the ST. I'd say medium thickness, oval. I have fairly large hands, and this handle feels pretty good. It's hollowed out (Donic's "V1 technology"). It gives me good feedback, no annoying vibration, and it makes the racket head-heavy. Head--the Ultra is light, mine weighed in at 83 grams. It's 5.8mm thick, and the size and shape are standard. The sweet spot seems very forgiving to me. I've dressed it with Xiom Vega Pro Max on both sides. The head heaviness bothers me personally. I like a more balanced blade. It makes the blade seem heavier than it is. Style--I hit a mostly mid distance loop game. I'm 6', 30 years old, slim, and I hit hard, but also carefully and with aim (think Ovtcharov or Maze, but not as good). This blade is suited most to power hitters, mid or long distance. It doesn't quite have the finesse I need. Power--This it has. I would class this blade more in the OFF+ category, rather than the manufacturer's stated OFF. If you wanna move plastic fast, this is your blade. In sum, I don't think many people will be able to use this blade well. I would be more inclined to recommend the Senso Carbon, the blade below this one in power, the one Ovtcharov uses. I need a softer feel and more finesse to my shots than this blade can give me. marohh said this on March 12, 2013:
This is a fine blade for controlled offensive players. I would rate it as an Off- Blade even though Donic describes it as very fast which it isn´t. What I like about this blade is the soft touch which makes it easy to play push balls as well as spinny topspins. My playing style is allround-offensive and combined with softer rubbers this blade supports my style perfectly.

nice balance speed=control..
great for close and far away from table.. its good for loopers.. but its not for beginers.. jokohama said this on May 6, 2013:
Yes, this blade is not for beginners. In fact, it is really fast, has a very good control, very good feeling, dwell time, very sensitive, overall - very complete and balanced blade, for a loop-oriented play.
I was searching for a blade that would fit my style - I'm a little bit advanced allround player, have a strong BH loop (can make BH loop-kill, also a banana-flick), strong and stable FH loop with many gears (from slow and very spinny to a fast loop-kill), I do the strong flat hitting both from FH and BH - especially a strong flat punch-block on BH, stable blocking and counter-blocking from BH and FH, also have a delicate touch, variable services, fast legs, pretty developed technique and etc. So my dream blade was a carbon blade (for larger sweet spot), very sensitive (I like to feel a ball), with good dwell (for looping with many gears), stiff enough (for flat hitting and blocking), with good control (for tactical play), with good speed (for kill shots). And what do You think? Donic WSUC have all these qualities! I've paired it with a Tibhar Sinus Sound Max. on BH and Yasaka Rakza 7 Soft 2.0 mm on FH. Rakza 7 Soft on WSUC has so much spin, that even very advanced players encounter problems when controlling my spinny loops. Also on that blade it has rare "can't miss" feeling. Sinus Sound on WSUC has an outstanding feeling, linearity on my BH and very good power looping abilities. One important moment - WSUC is a little bit head-heavy due to its handle design, while using light rubbers, it's not a problem. I thing head heaviness is much better for looping. Definitely it's a loopers dream! Perfect balance for advanced allround play! Finally about the speed. I've read some reviewers rate it very fast, some rate it not so fast at all. Well, the secret lies in that blade's perfect balance and versatility. It means that You can make a very sensitive short touch with that blade, even play a defensive style, vary the game gears much - but when You are on straight attack, a fast and technical stroke releases a BEAST sleeping inside. It can be very powerful when using proper technique. Perfect blade for a modern "power allround" attacker with good technique and fast legs. |
