Reviews of the Yasaka Gatien Extra 3D

Review TTPlayer said this on June 14, 2008:

Have had this blade for a while now, it does'nt seem to excel at anything. Construction is good quality, handle could be larger. I've tried a variety of rubbers on this, such as Yasaka MarkV, Rapid, Juic Elite Ultima but the speed is rather slow. Brush loops are difficult close to the table, but driving from a few feet away seems to be better. It seems this blade works better with harder sponged rubbers. Blocks are easy. Rated Off-, feels more like an All+. No noticeable hang time. Have'nt found the ideal rubber combo for this yet, maybe very soft sponges work just as well. Would suit an intermediate level player.
06/2008: Tried Mendo MP (un-speed-glued) on this blade yesterday, works great! As suspected, medium-hard sponges seem to work much better on this blade. In fact, of all the blades I put the MendoMP on (which were stiffer or faster), this blade gave the best results. Looping close to or far away became so much easier, and maybe related to the throw angle which went up by a notch, provided all the gears, and lots of control. Every rubber goes best on certain blades, just need to find the right one. Updating my rating to 8 based on this.

Very flexible blade, almost too flexible. I tried with soft rubbers (Juic Driva Smash Ultima) and it was almost unplayable, too slow and mushy. I guess harder rubbers should be used with it. The construction is nice and I found the flare handle pretty comfortable.

One of the best blades I have played with. Excellent feel, great for touch play close to the net and devastating on attack.

I have proven many shovels and this is not bad, but it is not of my favorites, good weight and touches - it goes or peaky long of reverse and of right with hurricane 3, I have proven, it and it does not convince to me by far to itch or to counterattack. it needs control or consintencia, must of being produced by the 3 effect D that has the shovel. with mark V. a little better right went.

Wonderful blade. I use it with Yasaka Mark V HPS Soft on both sides. Wonderful for placing shots with pin point accuracy. Great on blocks and wonderful for the short game.
