    Chinese Penhold Vs Japanese Penhold

i know the majority play Chinese and the rankings show the superiority against Japanese so i want to know the difference in a greater depth. My brother has been using Japanese and now is questioning to stay or go to Chinese

I think that Chinese penhold supports more play styles that J-Pen. A thick, single sided blade is meant for one thing, devastating forehand loops. C-Pen you can be a blocker, pips out attacker, flat hitter, 3rd ball attacker, two winged looper even. I've played at 3 clubs and there was only 1 guy who played J-Pen and he recently switched to C-Pen. The people I know who still play it are older, typically Korean, die-hard Ryu and Kim fans. Not saying it can't be an effective style, it's just it requires so much work, relentless drilling of backhand block and great footwork. If you are planning on relying on 3rd ball attack and learn serve strategies to entice quick opening kills, go for it, for C-Pen supports a better all around game in my opinion.

I'm no pro with penhold, but I've heard that the C-Pen grip is more flexible even for your wrist. With the J-Pen, it locks your wrist more and restricts the motion.

If you're going to do RPB (reverse penhold backhand) looping, it should be easier with C-Pen.

I have to say that Jpen or Cpen both are good if player is good. someone that plays jpen then changes to cpen wont make him any better player. Now it is true that jpen requires more work but properly learning rpb requires just as much work too. ALso for backhand smash or loop: i seen plenty players who use jpen and dominate those techniques so what am i saying? Go with whut u or ur bro feels like, FOLLOW THE HEART!!! lol
