    Giving Up Tenergy

After 7 months of playing with Tenergy rubbers I am switching back to Mark V fh and regular Sriver bh. Tenergy has great speed and spin but feel Tenergy is best for very high level players. I never felt a "comfort zone" with it. Playing with Mark V and Sriver on a fast Carbon blade gives me great speed a bit less spin but greater control in high speed exchanges. Tenergy is a great rubber for many players and will become the new classic for years to come. The velvety touch of Mark V and the allround power of Sriver is perfect for my style (allround attacker-counterdriver) but at least I can say I tried playing Tenergy.

Yeah I've only tried it a few times. I played with a beginner who got suckered into buying a fast carbon blade with Tenergy 05 on one side and Tenergy 64 on the other. It was too fast for me too.

At least Butterfly got their profits. I hear their CEO is starving.

After playing nothing but hardbat for a year.... and realizing that pretty much every tournament I was in... there was not ONE hardbat player.... I picked up the sponge game again. Mind you, playing hardbat taught me a IMMENSE amount as to what properties in a BLADE are important to me. Been using Valor Premier h'bat rubber on three different blades... the Valor Champion, the LKT Instinct 5-ply and a Valor "American Chopper". All defensive or control "rated" blades. 5-ply the lot of them.

So I chose very carefully... procured a Gambler Arylate Carbon 5-ply blade that's CONTROL rated... shod it with Geospin Tacky 1.5mm and the results for me have been absolutely excellent.

This of course was after picking up my older bat... I forget the blade but it was shod with Yasaka Mark V 2.2mm and proved to be utterly too fast and un-controlling for me. How I ever played with it well I'll never know but I did. Though not nearly as well as I'm doing with the new bat... and I'm just beginning to re-learn / clear cobwebs on my sponge game.

It is amazing to have equipment that you have complete confidence in. Of course the only way to find out is through experimenting. For that I truly love the chinese products as one can certainly experiment withoug investing a small fortune. The newest bat was $32(US) for the blade and $34 for the rubber. Considering that Mark V is nearly $40 a sheet.... and I paid over a hndred bucks for a Nittaku Tenaly Carbon blade.... a bargain comparitively.

For my level of play... I can't see investing a fortune.... If I were in the upper echelon of world rankings... and at that level of competition then perhaps I would re-consider.
    Later!

Tenergy isn't so difficult to handle that is if you play with a slow blade. Any allround blade will be more than enough for a Tenergy, as it offers incredible speed as you say. The problem about Tenergy is that all those guys out there play it on an offensive blade.

    oO

More speed and More spin doesnt always help for many players. In fact, if you play anyone upon till lvl 1000-1200 (sometimes even bit higher lvl), they tend to lose points/games from forced errors (service returns, controlled CUT and push) oO If you want more control, balanced gears, ur choices seem to be awesome. If i can suggest, 1st stay away from any tensor. 2nd On the other hand, if you want good and nice controlled rubber (expensive as well) with as good of spin as tenergy, try Spinart (strongly recommend usin on hard blade). I think you will like it, well im using one on 1ply Hinoki jpen and i love it cuz of control i get outta it mainly and as well as very nice spin

OK I put the Tenergy on a Andra Grubba ALL+ blade and it plays much more controlable than on the carbon blade. The dwell time is greatly increased so spin is monsterous and speed is very good. Hey guys it's a great combination for a powerful allround game. The A. Grubba is a soft blade with a medium feel. I think I'm on to something here and it will be fun to play with. I'm a 61 year old guy (1600-1700) who loves the game and tournaments and look forward to at least 50 more years of pong nirvana.

I play with Tenergy 05 on Michael Maze off blade and it's not so fast.

    Why give up tenergy?

My experience with tenergy wasn't that it was too fast more so that its throw angle was too high for my forehand. I then decided to give it a go on my backhand taking into consideration that top ranked pro's such as Ma Long and Ma Lin use tenergy on theirs and I found the perfect fit! The high throw and fast speed really fixed my power problem with my back hand drives and loops. After getting very comfortable with tenergy 05 on the backhand I've now switched to tenergy 64 for even more speed!. Just thought I'd share my experience. Tenergy in my opinion is a great backhand rubber but once again; the throw is too dreadfully high for the forehand.

I totaly agree that Tenergy 05 is better for fh and the 64 for bh. Many players in my club play with 64 on the fh and 05 for bh. Tenergy 05 has a lower throw than the 64 . The 25 is a bit strange for me with less touch than either the 05 or the 64. The Tenergy FX sheets are not yet available yet where I live and I'm hoping those don't have a high throw angle since my style is close to table allround offense. I feel the Tenergy rubbers work best on OFF, OFF-, or ALL+ blades. On OFF+ carbon blades Tenergy gets a little wild.

    Frogger,

Tenergy definately does get wild on Off+ blades and I think the throw angles between the 05 and 64 are almost the same. However since the 64 tends to throw the ball fatrher towards the end of the table, you could be right or it could just be that the 64 is faster. In either case I made adjustments and have increased my backhand shots speed tremendously switching to tenergy 64. On another note, if you like low throw rubbers u may want to consider trying Joola Express One. Its a tensor with a low throw and I absolutely fell in love with this rubber. I recommend this rubber to anyone as a forhand rubber
