Description of Dawei 388B

The features of Dawei Table Tennis Bats with the 388B Pips Out rubber:

High elasticity and speed, has some friction, can make a spinning ball. Suitable for our traditional attacking of close to table and block on backhand forehand and attack.

As of April 2008, the Dawei 388B is no longer ITTF-approved.

Rumor has it that it failed the friction test (along with a number of other pips which used to be approved). See the ITTF website for updates.

Reviews of the Dawei 388B

Review agooding2 said this on March 25, 2008:

A very soft, super grippy short pip, comparable to the almost tacky pips like Stiga Radical and Andro Revolution COR pips. Very spinny over the table with remarkable spin for a short pip. Great for someone coming to short pips from tacky Chinese rubber, but converse is that you need to adjust blade angle more to compensate for incoming spin.
Review cole_ely said this on March 28, 2008:

The formula for this short pip is stickier than most, so it's actually spinnier than the wider-pipped b-1 version. In the 1.8 35deg make this rubber actually chops pretty well.

This rubber is very spinny for a pip. It's a great rubber for players that want to play a counter/blocking style game with some loops on occasion. It serves great too.

This is a very spinny pip. You can actually produce some spinny serves with it.
Review fluturas101 said this on March 13, 2013:

I have to test the rubber more before making my mind. With its original softish sponge it is too fast for me and a bit difficult to control. I have just replaced the original 1.8 mm sponge with a much harder one (46 degrees on Chinese scale) of 1.5 mm. As far as the spin and strokes are concerned, the rubber seems quite promising. Will update my review after the next test.
