"GLOBE 889 ACCORDING TO THE NEW STANDARD OF ITTF THE GLOBE 889 SHORT PIMPLED RUBBER HAS BEEN DEVELOPED WITH ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY USING HIGH QUALITY POLYMER MATERIALS. GLOBE 889 IS A RUBBER FOR FAST ATTACK CLOSE TO THE TABLE.BUE TO THE RIBBED SURFACE OF THE PIMPLES IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE TO CREATE GOOD SPIN IN PUSHES AND TOPSPIN STROKES. USED BY MANY WORLD CLASS CHINESE PLAYERS DURING THE YEARS."

Comments:

The Globe 889-2 is ULTRA spinny for a short pimpled rubber. This is because the pimpled are wide and conical in shape, very soft and rough on top, with a soft sponge.

Short pimpled rubbers are ideal for fast hitting through spin (as incoming spin has much less effect on this rubber) and blocking. Because the 889-2 can generate good spin too, it can still be used for looping and chopping too. A very versatile rubber. This rubber is similar to the 889, but significantly spinnier.

Tested the rubber with custom 0.5mm sponge on the BH of a Globe 583 blade. Pips are horizontally aligned and rock hard, dose not bend at all. The grip on the rubber is just enough for lifting/roll-looping back spin ball and bringing the ball over the net when driving against top spin ball, almost no spin on serving. But the trajectory of the ball is flat and sinking when flat hitting/driving, the faster the stroke, the more it sinks, just like some "raw" pips out rubber but indeed it is a "cooked" one. Not recommended for pips beginners but can be a good option for pips hitter.

Durability is minimal. After a 2 hour session with the rubber, the topsheet started tearing away from the sponge. Not worth at all despite its low price per sheet

i tried a 889-2 with japan sponge...the surface very hard and the sponge very soft.very good for blocking and hiting but not good for topspin because with the hard pimples it is difficult to create spin and allso not good for chop any serve but good for push the serves
