Reviews of the JOOLA Phenix (Phoenix) Paul Oakes said this on April 9, 2010:
Plays similar to Express 1, but with a lot more spin. Very fast and accurate, excellent over the table with a low throw for direct hitting, able to lift chop and loop with serious speed. Control is good but needs care when pushing - needs to be dug under the ball so the rubber grips and then catapults the ball away else pushes are high or long. Combines the best of Exp. 1 and Hexer. Tested on TSP Baslsa 6.5. Anonymous said this on April 18, 2010:
To Paul: Which characteristics of the Express 1 and Hexer are you talking about?(that are the best of both) Anonymous said this on May 5, 2010:
RE: Anon's Q? on Ex 1 and Hexer: Express 1's main (only!) feature is Speed - it's notoriously poor for spinning the ball, and works for flat hitting at the table really well but only generates any real arc iwhen hit with extreme power from deep positions. In that sense it's nearer a high-speed short pimple than a looping rubber. Hexer is spinny (not a lasting effect, needs careful maintainance) but not especially quick by the standards of the last few years. It's also not linear at all - there's a point faster than top-spin flips where it just fires the ball off the end of the table, then when you try really attackiong the ball the spin and control return - very disconcerting until you adjust to it. I would say that Phoenix is much closer to Exp. 1 and after a month of use I have nothing to regret about this rubber - the spin is still there, it's as fast as anything else and the control for blocks and placement is incredible given the speed. felt like a sriver G3 with slightly less spin and slightly harder sponge. looping backspin is a nightmare, also because of the lack of spin, whereas counterhitting and -looping was great

Joola's best rubber yet, by far. Feels very similar to a glued Bryce. Very fast, and grippy topsheet. Only problem is that the rubber surface is delicate, probably from the tension. ITS REALLY GREAT I LOVE THIS RUBBER Anonymous said this on February 3, 2011:
This is the best I've tried for fast driving post glue. Could do with a little more spin on serves but is a real beast when driving. Works real well on Stiga ALL blade. Red is quite a bit quicker than black. The factory tune lasts a long time and durability is very good. RANGER said this on May 20, 2011:
Excellent weapon for offensive two wings player, very consistent in closer and far strokes, a little heavy in MAX, the rubber is very thin and delicate and used to brake in the edge.
The spin is amazing and the durability is too high (keep the spin with 400hs of use), factory tuning (let outside of the package at least 48hs to dry the solution on the sponge), the speed is very fast but at the same time controlled with a lot of precision. I use in a hard blade (Stiga Hybrid Wood) and for me is a excellent combination, but a little heavy mix too (blade heavy + rubber a little heavy). But i like heavy combo. I can agree with everything written before. Very long lasting and offensive rubber. A little bit tricky in returns because of its speed when hitting too direct. Anonymous said this on October 11, 2011:
Very fast but controllable predictable rubber. A little softer sponge for a more dwell and a little more grippiness - that would be my ideal rubber. Best rubber ever for flat hits. But the spin is quite enough. Just a little higher throw, a little higher spin/speed ratio...Joola! Please! Anonymous said this on January 31, 2012:
Great all around rubber. Speed, spin, control, feel. Good for close and mid-court play. Will stay on my forehand. Anonymous said this on March 19, 2012:
This is my all time favourite rubber! I'm a rather defensive player who even plays with long pimples. The phenix is good for defending, but I am able to make many points with a regular smash or topspin too! Since i've been using this rubber, my play has been drastically improved. + It's fast, and good for spinning short serves and close behind the net + Serves are good overall + When you're used to it, it has pretty good control for it's speed - you really have to go beneath the ball when you want to chop or push it; but you'll get lot's of spin - not good for starting players (you should've played for 2-3 years min.) |
