Description of LKT Torrent
Powerful attack rubber by LKT. Maximum performance without the use of speed glue. E. Enhanced. G. Geometric. S. Structure. Special energy sponge. Is a high speed inverted rubber designed to maximize speed and spin after the ITTF glue ban ruling. Torrent has a specialized pip geometry that when combined with new energy sponge creates a playing environment that existed previously only with speed glue. |

This is a rubber I thought I'd like better. It is pretty slow without glue, and not much faster with. I thought it would have a lot of spin, but, in practice it seems about average at best.
This may be a case of the rubber not really being well matched to my blade or game... hymm said this on March 25, 2008:
Tried this rubber to see if it could replace my Donic F3 on the backhand. While it did feel similar especially compared to other cheap rubbers that I have tried, but still not right. I could almost use it, but in the end didn't like it as much as the F3. It doesn't really have a speed glue effect, but the weird pip structure makes it feel more similar than normal rubbers.

I love the Torrent. I play with a faster blade, so I don't need a really fast rubber. I love to create spinny loops, both top and side, with a lot of control, and this rubber does that perfectly. It also gives me plenty of juice on my serves as well. I can also counter-loop away from the table with this rubber.

Weird weird weird rubber!
I thought that this rubber was very strange at first, but after only a short while I really grew to like this rubber a lot. Considering some of the other reviews on this page, it might just be because Torrent fit my game well. I don't really understand the strange pip structure quite yet. During play it seemed similar to Butterfly's Tigh Tension rubbers but with a quality characteristic of Chinese rubbers. Very strange. Both smashing and looping are easy with this rubber; blocking and service work like a charm. Strangely, for a rubber marked for speed, chop is also pretty decent with a lower ball trajectory. Very strange, but in a good way. This was very different than any other Chinese rubber I have ever used. UPDATE: This rubber, although decently fast, works very well as the backhand rubber for any moderately to strongly offensively minded player. It, having decent control for its speed, can help make backhand shots comparably powerful as forehand shots (unless of course you use a super speed rubber for your forehand). Very unusual. Sponge feels very soft, but in practice I found the rubber lacked the soft feel I expected. Feels much more direct, and so requires adjustment from a traditional chinese rubber perspective. Probably due to crazy pip structure in the top sheet, which is madder than a sack full of frogs.
Not massively tacky, but I did have a red sheet and the blacks are supposed to be tackier. Looping was easy with lots of spin and low throw. Smashing and blocking were tricky at first, but lots of potential if you can put the effort in. I guess a good analogy would be to say that it behaves quite like a hard-surface japanese rubber when applying pace, but retains chinese qualities for slower pushes and chops. That said, I couldn't adjust and went with 729-08 on the f/hand in the end. EdwinXVS said this on March 31, 2009:
Recently I glued this rubber in my friendship whirlwind black and the speed just have gotten a little better but I think that the spin improved from sky to earth really good spin glued almost the same speed but a little better anyways the rubber isn't slow so is good enough to beat anyon

Very Very bad, desatache rubber pips of sponge. Competly desatache rubber pips of sponge in 3 day. No vulacaniced rubber with japan or german rubber. Bad quality. Control quality non exist. rafajagua said this on September 23, 2009:
I liked this rubber. When i started use Torrent, i was with a slow blade and my game was terrible. When i glued this rubber on a faster blade, the rubber started to work. Torrent shows a good feeling, good/medium controls and spin. I guess, this a rubber for players that wants adjust the moviments and the consistence of game. JimC said this on December 12, 2009:
Use this on butterfly BISIDE blade. I have always had alot of spin on both sides and I normally (I have retired from serious competition) played Sriver then COPPA or SCRAMBLE when I was a 2100 level player. This stuff works fine and I continue to use it now that I am a trainer and coach Andre Marchiori said this on April 25, 2011:
The rubber when recently fixed on the blade works fine. Very control, good spin, medium arc, not much power but enough for an allround-Off rubber. The problem was when the FIRST unglue to put in a new blade. Bubbles appear between the sponge and the rubber... and, in the second time the rubber simply PLUGED-OUT of the sponge. First, and last time I bought a pair of this rubber. Best table tennis player at kdc said this on April 19, 2012:
THE WORST RUBBER IN THE WHOLE WORLD. ITS SO SLOW THAT EVEN A SNAIL IS FASTER blackbird74 said this on February 12, 2013:
Hardness seems about 34 +- 2 degrees. Weight seems slightly above average.
Rubber is slightly tacky when new. The ball will only stick to it slightly or not at all. A bit slow as when attacking though spin good but less than tacky rubbers. Quite a good level of control as not too fast. Throw angle I found to be a bit lower than average. Blocking was OK lacked some punch as slower rubber generally. Pushing and chop serves were good for control but spin was not heavy due to lack of tacky surface. A bit slow compared to most attacking rubbers but very good value for the price. One of the best to try out in this price range. |
