Reviews of the Palio CJ8000 Biotech 39-41°

Review Glenn said this on June 13, 2009:

The old (and famous) palio CJ8000 topsheet over the new biotech sponge.

This rubber was made for the glue ban but to those looking for a tensor like feel - this is way off one. It cracks pleasantly when looping hard and thats about all you get. Still a good improvement over old models though.

Whats special about this rubber is that despite it only being "slightly tacky", it produces extreme amount of spin via its excellent grip on the topsheet. It serves as well as any tacky topsheet, and loops as spinnily as any rubber sheet (imo, even tenergy 05).

Another good point is its control during looping. This rubber is extremely easy to loop with (whether lifting backspin or loopdriving topspin). I felt i could loop all day with this rubber.

The bad news : this rubber isn't fast. One would need to pair it with a fast blade and generate his own power (especially on moves like punchblocking). It misses the top gear or 2 when its not glued. Its extremely grippy topsheet means that one has to be careful with serve receive.

Its very cheap though. I'd recommend it for people skilled enough to avoid the cons and likes the pros of the rubber. Definitely not for professionals though - i think its too slow.

totally agree with glenn
slow but easy to control. great for training. not good for competition since it's not fast enough without great techniques. cheap as r all the palio rubbers. i got a used CJ8000 biotech (less than 10 buck and in like-new condition) for a friend who had been using an old/borrowed nittaku hammond. spin and speed is of course no match for hammond. but he made the transition without a problem. the only reason i wanted him to use this rubber is because he's killing me with the hammond sheet!!! nah... just kidding, i'm not that mean. the hammond was a bit too fast for him. his loops were powerful but his blocks were a mess. hopefully, his stroke will improve with the CJ8000 since it's slow enough to force him to use his whole body to swing and kill the ball. i'm pretty sure once he master the CJ8000 he can make the switch back to better rubber and kill me with a snap of his fingers...

Review EJ Eddie said this on January 9, 2010:

Very nice rubber. Good control, very good spin on loops, nice for lifting heavy backspin, blocking monster, excellent close-in, very good mid-court.

CJ8000 has good feel and control as a fairly fast allround rubber. Not for raw beginners, but most for most levels above beginner.

Recommended for forehand and backhand. Makes a great backhand rubber when teamed with a fast attacking forehand rubber on a OFF blade.

Excellent rubber!!! You can play it on backhand or forehand with good speed, very good control and a lot of spin!!!
Review AndySmith said this on February 10, 2010:

This is an incredible rubber for the money. The quality is great, you get a lot of grip from the topsheet, and the sponge is soft enough for easy loops and a good short game.

As others have said, it's not naturally quick, but paired with a faster blade it can become a real weapon. Which is top stuff considering how cheap it is!

I really dont know how to play this rubber.
Maybe good for defense.
Not fast enough for players who use to attack alot.
I was playing this rubber like 15 minutes until i got frustrated.
I tossed it to a 12 year old youngster - they can use it for learning.
Review IK said this on September 15, 2010:

huh...for driving and countering, excellent; for looping chinese sponge does not allow ball to sink in, therefore seems that this rubber is suited for brush loop. nice for serve, ok for blocking, altough it is not fast it gains speed when struck hard. sponge deforms into a dome and tends to shrink so I had sam problems when glueing and especially reglueing!

if for euro-looping was better i would say this is an excellent rubber

Review Spin Drive said this on February 18, 2011:

Great Rubber! Incredible value for money.

Speed is decent but If you put it on a fast blade like my Galaxy T-11, it can generate more than enough speed to finish the point.

Spin is one of the virtues of this rubber. If can produce tons of it! So this rubber is quite good for serving.

Control is also very good. Looping, flick shots, flat hitting and chopping are easy to execute.
If you have good technique and a fast blade, this rubber can serve you well.

Also very good for people wanting to improve.

Quiet inexpensive too.
Review seguso said this on June 21, 2011:

Very high throw but not so great spin: the ball has a high arc but is slow, indicating that it is not spinning fast.

This rubber plays like a slower Tenergy 05: same high arc and same behavior on opening loops (ball slowing down, indicating poor spin).

If you want high throw and really crazy spin, try mercuryII 37 degrees. Mercury2 is much spinnier because it is both grippy and tacky (whereas cj8000 is just grippy).

MercuryII 37 is also faster than this rubber, just a bit harder, and just as cheap.

The hardness number is misleading: 39-41 is much softer than Galaxy or DHS scale. This would be like 34 in the galaxy scale.

Nice topssheet. Has good grip for spin and has good control. Sponge is the letdown. Sponge is dead. It has no kick and easily bottoms out if you put it on a hard blade. That is why it is slow. Good for near the table play and for those learning the game though
Review tiburd said this on March 5, 2013:

I'm currently using this rubber on a Galaxy T-11+ blade (both wings), which is an odd combo. The blade and the rubber are both very good alone, but the rubber is heavy enough to make the combo quite top-heavy on this light blade (mine weighs less than 69g). The rubber weighs about 52g cut (each side) and is noticeably heavier than several other rubbers in my experience, especially various Butterfly and Donic. I don't know who contributed to the low weight ratings on this site, but the weight ratings posted for the other sponge choices on this rubber (4.5 for 36-38 degree, and 6.0 for the 40-42 and 42-44 degree versions) are more realistic. Balance would actually be better if used with a heavier blade, as this setup is by far the most topheavy of the approximately 20 rackets I have played with. Even so, control is excellent, and the grippy rubber delivers an effective "stealth spin" that can cause problems for an opponent despite not feeling so spinny. On this blade, the throw angle is nicely medium. Can chop all day, smashes are reliable, drives can be placed with pinpoint accuracy (after I adjust to the odd balance), loops can be well planted on the table from close to mid distance, blocks are good, touch shots are fine. A super bargain (found some on eBay for under 13 USD per pair with shipping).

Excellent rubber. Been using it for both sides for few years, still in good shape!

Does excellent spin and provides pretty good control. I'm a spinner and smash blocker, and this rubber does the job well.
